MIODRAG POLEDICA, PARTICIPANT IN THE "BUILDING FUTURES" CONFERENCE

The regional business conference - the United Kingdom and the Western Balkans, "Building Futures" was held on November 20, 2025 in Belgrade.

The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, spoke at the conference, which was dedicated to innovations in the field of green energy, infrastructure and advanced technologies.

In addition to President Vučić, the audience was addressed by the H.E. Edward Ferguson, the British Ambassador to Serbia, Lord Ranger of Northwood, Chair at British - Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Cerry Morgan, His Majesty Trade Commissioner for Europe as well as Mihajlo Vesović, the Deputy President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

One of the participants of the Conference was Miodrag Poledica, assistant director of Roads of Serbia, who spoke about the importance of improving regional connectivity through the accelerated development of modern transport infrastructure in Serbia and the entire Western Balkans.

Poledica pointed out that Serbia is in the middle of an intensive investment cycle, with more than 500km of highways under construction and 1,000km in the design phase, which positions it as a key transport link between Western and Southeastern Europe. He put special emphasis on the example of good practice - the Bypass around Belgrade, which brought significant benefits in terms of reducing transit traffic, increasing traffic safety and attracting new investments.

He also talked about key challenges in the field of transport logistics and border crossings, emphasizing that administrative and customs procedures still limit the full efficiency of Serbia's modern road network.

"Reducing logistics costs and speeding up border crossings are crucial for attracting investors and better connections with eight neighboring countries. "Serbia is already implementing models like the "one-stop shop" system and the Green Corridors, in order to speed up freight traffic and ensure faster, more predictable and more coordinated border processes," added the assistant director.

Highlighting the investment potential of areas along motorways in Serbia, Poledica added that modern traffic infrastructure directly affects the attraction of foreign investments, better accessibility to markets and accelerated regional development, as well as that research has shown that almost all major investments are located in a zone up to 15 km to the left and right of the highway. It was stated that Serbia has a detailed database of investment locations, as well as that the Beltway around Belgrade shows how much the construction of highways encourages the development of industrial zones. "Each kilometer of a modern motorway is an investment in long-term economic integration, competitiveness and stronger connection of Serbia with the region and the EU," concluded Miodrag Poledica.
