On September 29, 2026, a professional workshop was held in the "Majdan" hotel in Belgradem, on the topic of creating a Manual for planning and designing bicycle infrastructure.
The manual is intended to improve and standardize the approach to planning and designing bicycle infrastructure in the Republic of Serbia, to which a significant contribution was made by the exchange of experiences and expert opinions.
Those present were addressed by Miodrag Poledica, Assistant Director of Putevi Srbije and Jovana Đurović, Assistant Director of the Sector for Strategy, Designing and Development, pointing out the importance that Putevi Srbije attaches to the development and improvement of cycling infrastructure.
The workshop brought together over 80 representatives of relevant state and scientific-educational institutions, the professional public and business companies that are directly involved in the planning, design and development of cycling infrastructure.
The goal of the workshop was to gather proposals and suggestions for the content of the Manual through an open professional discussion and exchange of experiences, so that its guidelines would be clear, practical and applicable in different conditions.
The workshop presented topics important for the development of a safe, functional and accessible cycling infrastructure, with a special focus on the shortcomings and inconsistencies of the current legislation, principles of planning and ranking of cycling networks, elements of cycling infrastructure, conditions for the safe movement of cyclists, solutions at intersections and intersections, as well as supporting content such as bicycle parking, rest areas and connecting cycling and public transport.
Practical challenges faced by planners, road managers and local governments were also discussed.
The conceptual solution of the bicycle path was also presented, prepared for the needs of the Spatial Plan of the special purpose area for the construction and reconstruction of the bicycle path in the zone of state road IIA category number 100, on the section Novi Sad - Stara Pazova, combining the professional and normative aspect of the creation of the Manual with a concrete example of bicycle infrastructure planning.
The manual represents one of the steps towards a systematic approach to the development of cycling infrastructure and the creation of conditions for safer, more comfortable and better movement of cyclists on roads and in urban areas.
