ROADS OF SERBIA: READY FOR WINTER SERVICE 2025/2026

Public Enterprise “Roads of Serbia” informs the public that on November 1, 2025, the Winter Service begins, according to the Winter Maintenance Plan for State Roads I and II in the Republic of Serbia 2025/2026.

The Winter Maintenance Plan for the Road Network provides for special works, activities, and only those necessary to ensure road passability and traffic safety in winter conditions.

The Winter Maintenance Plan for State Roads I and II is implemented from November 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026 and is a binding framework for the formation of plans for all companies engaged in road maintenance.

22 road companies and two service companies (“Srbijaput” - Belgrade and “Vojvodinaput” - Novi Sad) are engaged in the maintenance of the complete network of state roads of the Republic of Serbia.

The main priority of PE “Roads of Serbia” in the winter period is the maintenance of national roads of the first and second order, which are operated from road bases and checkpoints, of which there are a total of 175.

Road mechanization is available in the road bases on highways 24/7.

The total length of the network of state roads on the territory of the Republic of Serbia and municipal roads on the territory of the AP Kosovo and Metohija for winter maintenance in the 2025/2026 season is 15,235,219 km and is implemented according to the following priorities:

  • First priority, a total of 6,297,735 km - The road is cleaned and sprinkled with pure salt, so that traffic can flow at a reduced safe speed in difficult conditions (snow or ice on the road) at a maximum of 60 km/h
  • Second priority, a total of 4,448,458 km - The road is cleaned and sprinkled only with paddy or slag up to 80g/m², so that traffic can proceed with a reduced safe speed of up to 40 km/h, in difficult conditions (snow or ice on the road)
  • The third priority, a total of 4,489,026 km - the snow is only removed from the roads and the weather makes it passable so that traffic can proceed with a reduced safe speed at a maximum of 40 km/h, in difficult conditions (snow or ice on the road), but only after the roads of priority I and II roads are cleaned

According to the Winter Service Plan for 2025/2026 is available:

  • 815 road vehicles and trucks
  • 338 machines
  • 2,329 workers in one shift, of which:
  • 998 road workers
  • 178 technicians
  • 338 machinists
  • 815 drivers

The involvement of mechanization can be greater in cases of occurrence of natural disasters and according to the degree of their strength.

A total of 75,000 tons of salt and about 1,000 tons of cold asphalt mass for the repair of potholes and a sufficient amount of stone paddies/aggregates of about 100,000 tons have been provided with reserves.

Special attention is paid to the organization of the maintenance of state roads of the first and second order in winter conditions:

a) "Gazela" bridge, Bubanj Potok pass, Begaljičko Brdo and “Mečka” pass (Pass “Bear”) on the highway;

b) the Čestobrodica pass on the road Paraćin - Zaječar (600 m.a.s.l.);

c) the ascent of Rušanj and Rudnik on the State Road of I B No 23;

d) Zlatibor pass, (1000 m above sea level);

e) Popadija (Majdanpek - Negotin);

f) Tresibaba Pass (Knjaževac – Niš);

g) Svetinja pass (Topola – Kragujevac);

h) Passes on Fruška Gora (Iriški Venac and Banstol),

k) Wider areas of Tara, Crna Trava and Sjenica,

l) The bridge near Beška on the road Belgrade - Novi Sad,

m) Jaram pass on the Brzeće-Kopaonik road,

n) Bridge over the Sava, bypass Dobanovci-Ostružnica

o) The area of ​​the Prijevorac bridge on the reconstructed section of the I B category road No 23, between Borova Glava and Kokini Brod,

p) Belgrade bypass from Sector-3 (Sava River) to the end of Sector 5 (Straževica) and the Bypass

q) New “Batajnica” bridge with the ramps, in the Batajnica interchange

PE “Roads of Serbia” cooperates with the Ministry of Interior - Traffic Police Administration, Department for Emergency Situations and regularly informs them about the state of the roads, accepts suggestions and jointly take decisions on traffic suspensions on critical sections.

PE “Roads of Serbia” appeals to all road users and drivers to comply with the regulations and not to enter traffic without winter equipment, especially on critical sections, to respect speed limits, increase care for others traffic participants and show the necessary solidarity on the road.
