09.06.20. Left tube of tunnel „Straževica“ on Belgrade Bypass excavated

The final excavation works at the tunnel “Straževica“ on the Belgrade Bypass were attended by the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure prof. Zorana Mihajlović, PhD, the Acting Director of the PE “Roads of Serbia“, Zoran Drobnjak, General Director of the Chinese company “Powerchina“, Yang Bo, and the Mayor of Belgrade, Zoran Radojičić.

“The works on the section from the bridge over the river Sava at Ostružnica to Bubanj potok, in the length of 20 kilometres, where the tunnel “Straževica“ is located, are complicated and demanding and they are carried out following special procedures and technology. After 30 years, we will have a bypass around Belgrade, thanks to the help and support of the Government of Serbia”, said the Acting Director Zoran Drobnjak.

The Minister Zorana Mihajlović announced the completion of the tunnel in 2021, while the entire section from the bridge over the river Sava at Ostružnica to Bubanj potok will be completed in 2022. “When you do good and high-quality things for your people, then you cannot fail. Straževica is a symbol of victory, showing resilience to all conflicts and wars“, said Mihajlović and thanked the governments of China and Azerbaijan, companies and all workers for the deliverance of the project in accordance with the agreed dynamics and deadlines.

“The final excavating works were carried out 225 days before the deadline, which represents a great success for our company“, said Yang Bo, while thanking the line ministry and the Government of Serbia for their support. Bo has emphasized that “Powerchina“ will make efforts to successfully complete the construction of the bypass through labour and hard work and thus justify the given trust.

The works are being carried out on the Belgrade Bypass section from Ostružnica to Bubanj potok, comprising three sectors: Ostružnica – Orlovača, Orlovača – tunnel “Straževica“, tunnel “Straževica“ – interchange Bubanj potok. With the completion of the Belgrade Bypass, 47 kilometres long, transit traffic will be relocated from the city streets, city traffic will be relieved, pollution will be reduced and traffic safety will be improved.
