13.05.20. Heavy maintenance works on state road Kula- Vrbas to be completed in November

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, prof. Zorana Mihajlović, PhD., and the Acting Director of the PE”Roads of Serbia” Zoran Drobnjak, with presidents of municipalities Kula and Vrbas, Damjan Miljanić and Milan Glušac and the contractors, have visited heavy maintenance works on I B category state road no. 15 Kula (Bačka Topola) - Vrbas (Savino Selo).

„This is an investment worth almost five million euros and we expect the works to be completed in November this year”, said the Minister Mihajlovic and added that the road, connecting two districts, will contribute not only to the better quality of life for the citizens, but will also enable the arrival of new investments.

Acting Director of the PE “Roads of Serbia" Zoran Drobnjak said that the section, 10 km long, is being reconstructed, and also the reconstruction of the road Vrbas-Fеkеtić, 9.5 km long and worth 3.2 million euros, is being completed. Drobnjak added that this year 450 km of roads are being rehabilitated, using the funds provided by the World Bank and the European Investment Bank loans. “Beside the expressway for which we are preparing documents, a design for the rehabilitation of the road Sombor-Kula, at the cost of approximately 10 million euros, is also being prepared“,Drobnjak pointed out.

Infrastructure and good roads provide a basis for economic development, Minister Mihajlović emphasized and announced the construction of an expressway from Sombor to the border with Romania, for which the design documentation is being prepared. This road is important not only for the region but for entire Serbia as well, Mihajlović pointed out and added that the project is estimated to be worth approximately 800 million euros, almost as much as Corridor 10. “A stable budget has enabled us to provide billions of dinars for road maintenance and we will continue to do that despite the problems caused by the coronavirus outbreak”, Mihajlović explained. The Deputy Prime Minister has announced, since the construction season is in full swing, that she will visit all construction sites in Serbia in the forthcoming period, in order to thank everyone who has been working during the epidemics.

„The road Kula-Vrbas is a very busy section on the border between two districts and the completion of the reconstruction will provide better connection of cities and also increase the level of traffic safety. Thanks to the cooperation with the President of Serbia and the Government, we are delivering important projects in the municipality", said the President of the Municipality Vrbas, Milan Glušac.

The President of the Municipality Kula, Damjan Miljanić, said that projects of vital importance for this municipality have been announced and agreed and pointed out that the reconstruction implies the widening of the road, the construction of a cycling lane and new lighting. He added that two water plants will be constructed in Kula as well as a plant for wastewater treatment in Sivac and several minor road rehabilitations will be carried out.
