The goal of road infrastructure development is to network the interior of the territory of the Republic of Serbia for the sake of better traffic connections, both within Serbia and between Serbia and its surroundings.
"As of today, we have built around 1,100 kilometers of motorways and about 160 kilometers of expressways," said Miodrag Poledica, Assistant Director of "Putevi Srbija".
Pointing out the importance of the construction of the motorway from Sremska Rača to Kuzmin, which will connect Serbia with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poledica announced that the route will be completed in the next few months.
“The most significant facility on the route is the new bridge over the Sava, which was built in the full profile of the motorway, as well as the common integrated border crossing that will significantly reduce the waiting time at the border crossings for passenger and cargo vehicles.”
Poledica also pointed out the importance of the construction of the Fruška Gora Corridor expressway and Moravian corridors, express roads, then bypasses around Kragujevac, Svilajnac, Valjevo, Užice, as well as the interchange of Batočina and Vranjska Banja.
“As important as the construction of road infrastructure is, timely planning, i.e. design, which precedes construction is just as important. Currently, in Serbia, ten large projects are in the design phase with a length of over 800 kilometers” stated Poledica and announced the design of the continuation of the Bypass around Belgrade. “We are talking about Sector C, the Bypass around Belgrade, a multimodal motorway and railway corridor, about 31 km long.”
Poledica highlighted the completion of the conceptual project of the expressway from Ostružnica to Obrenovac, which will expand the Obrenovac road to four traffic lanes, stressing the importance of bringing Obrenovac closer to Belgrade and connecting the Miloš Veliki motorway with Belgrade.
“Each kilometer of motorway or expressway means a safe road, reduced travel time, new investments. Looking through the examples of the Miloš Veliki Motorway and the Bypass around Belgrade, the effects in terms of traffic safety are incredible”, said Poledica and stated that with the opening of the Miloš Veliki Motorway, the number of traffic accidents with casualties on the Ibar highway decreased by as much as 40%, while after the completion of the Bypass around Belgrade, by 20-30%.
