Interchange Sopot at Pirot opened for traffic

The newly-built interchange Sopot in Pirot, connecting the existing IIA category roads 221 (Knjaževac-Temska-Dimitrovgrad ) and 259 (Niš-Pirot), was opened for traffic on 10th August, 2021.

The project investor – company “Corridors of Serbia” has, through the savings within the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development loan, provided funds and built a connection between the aforementioned state roads, after the construction of the motorway E-80, while honoring the requests of inhabitants from seventeen villages in the Pirot vicinity.

Apart from the advantages for the local inhabitants, the interchange is the shortest and the fastest link between Bela Palanka and Pirot with the Nature Park “Stara planina” and further incentive is given to development of tourism and common prosperity of the Stara planina villages and the nearby parts of Eastern Serbia.

The works, comprising the construction of two T-junctions with a road intersecting the motorway E-80 with an overpass, have been executed by the company “Integral Inženjering” within the contracted deadline.
