Winter Service Plan 2022/2023 Presentation and Press Conference on Commencement of Winter Service Maintenance of State Roads

Winter Service Plan 2022/2023 Presentation and press conference relating to commencement of winter maintenance of the state roads, manpower organization, funds and machines, and systems of informing the media, public and other stakeholders on the conditions on roads during the winter was held on November 1, 2022, at 1 p.m., in the hotel Metropol in Belgrade.

Winter Service Plan 2022/2023 was presented by Ljerka Ibrović, Manager of the Department for Public Relations, and Zoran Stojisavljević, Executive Director of the Sector for Maintenance of I and II Category state roads and Manager of the Winter Service Headquarters.

The audience was also addressed by Živko Babović, Chief of Risk Management and Civil Protection Department, MIA – Emergency Management Sector, Goran Mihajlović, Assistant to Director of the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia, as well as Marko Maslaković, before the Information Center of the PE Roads of Serbia.

„This year, a top priority is cleaning of 5.940 kilometers of state roads which will be cleaned and sprinkled with salt and which have to be cleaned four hours upon cessation of precipitation“, said Ljerka Ibrović. She also specified that 169 road depots and checkpoints with 774 road vehicles and trucks, 332 machines, and 2,191 workers per shift, with a possible increase in their number if necessary, are ready for winter road maintenance.

Ibrović appealed to all traffic participants not to start their journey without obligatory winter equipment.

The Winter Service Manager, Zoran Stojisavljević, stated that the PE Roads of Serbia, together with 24 road companies with which it collaborates, is ready for the season of winter maintenance of I and II Category state roads of a total length of 14,909 kilometers.

Stojisavljević said when answering to journalists' questions, that roads accessing winter resorts are classified as a priority, and that there will not be any problems since the workforce has been increased, especially for Kopaonik and Stara planina (Balkan Mountains).

Chief of the Emergency Management Sector within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Živko Babović, said that this Sector is making preparations for the winter season, and announced a meeting of all line ministries, PE Roads of Serbia and supporting services for the next week.

According to weather forecasts, the first snow may be expected already at the end of this month. „In the last decade of November, in the territories above 1.500 meters snow may accumulate“, announced Goran Mihajlović, Assistant to Director of the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia.
