Minister Momirović: Road safety for children is our priority

On 28 January, 2022, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Tomislav Momirović, together with the President of the Municipality of Mladenovac, Vladan Glišić, and the representatives of the PE “Roads of Serbia“, visited the zone of the Primary School “Momčilo Živojinović“ in the settlement Dubona, on the IIA category state road no.155, Mladenovac – Smederevo, where traffic signage has been installed for the purpose of improving road safety for children.

“Every child going to school in the morning has the right to be safe. Our duty is to ensure that safety at any cost”, Minister Momirović has stressed, adding that the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, together with the PE “Roads of Serbia”, has allocated additional funds for the installation of traffic signage and the marking of all spots where traffic intersects pedestrian paths, especially those of children.

“We want to be a society where the pedestrian is in focus, where there is absolute road safety, especially for our children. We do not want to be a society with traffic-related death rates, especially those involving children. We invested a lot in road safety in previous years and that’s why we had the best results regarding safety, children’s safety first and foremost. We shall continue to do so in the future”, Minister Momirović said.

In the period from 2018 to 2021, the PE “Roads of Serbia“ invested more than 60 million dinars for improvement of children’s road safety in 32 school zones on state roads.

PE “Roads of Serbia“, aware of the significance of the project for the improvement of children’s road safety in school zones, is developing designs for seven more school zones where traffic signage will be installed, three in Pešter (settlements Duga Poljana, Kamešnica and Zaječiće) and one in Kosjerić (settlement Varda), Šabac (settlement Varna), Bogatić (settlement Badovinci) and Mladenovac (settlement Velika Krsna) respectively.
